Dutch Wonderland Lancaster, PA: A Day Full of Rides, Daniel Tiger, and a Foam Party We Did Not Expect

If you’re within driving distance of Lancaster, Pennsylvania and you have young kids, this park deserves to be on your family activity list. Here’s everything you need to know, including the things the website doesn’t put front and center.
Where We Went
Dutch Wonderland is an amusement park located in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, less than three hours from Washington D.C., making it a very realistic day trip or easy weekend destination for DMV families. It’s designed specifically for young children with rides, shows, a water play area, and seasonal events that make every visit feel different.
We absolutely love Daniel Tiger in our house. So discovering that the Daniel Tiger and Friends live show was happening all summer? That sealed the trip.
What We Loved
Daniel Tiger and Friends Live Show
We are big Daniel Tiger fans. Seeing the characters live on stage was a moment. The boys were locked in from start to finish. The show is well-produced, age-appropriate, and hits all the emotional intelligence notes that Daniel Tiger is known for. If you have little ones in the 2-6 age range who love the show, this is worth building your entire visit around.
The rides
Dutch Wonderland’s rides are designed for young children, which means the rides your toddler can actually go on and not just watch from the sideline. The scale is right for little kids and the variety keeps them moving from one thing to the next without anyone getting bored. The only ride my toddler could not get on was the bumper cars which does have a height requirement minimum of 42" to sit as a passenger, and 54" to drive alone.
Duke’s Lagoon water play area
When the rides needed a break, Duke’s Lagoon delivered. Water play designed for kids, with spray features, splash areas, and age-appropriate water fun. Come with a change of clothes and don’t plan on staying dry.
Santa’s Beach Bash
We visited during Santa’s Beach Bash, which runs through late July and it was a full Christmas-in-July experience we did not see coming. Santa was there. Bubbles were everywhere. And then the foam party happened. The boys thought this was possibly the greatest day of their lives. Between the rides, the water park, Santa, the bubbles, and the foam party, it was a full, wonderful, joy-filled day.

Watching our boys at the foam party. Pure chaos, pure happiness. That’s the whole reason we do this.
What’s Great for Kids (By Age)
Babies and toddlers (under 2):
Dutch Wonderland is genuinely young-child friendly. Many rides are accessible for very young children and the park atmosphere is calm enough not to overwhelm little ones. Perfect for first theme park experiences.
Little Kids (ages 2-6):
This is peak Dutch Wonderland age. The Daniel Tiger show, the rides, the water play, the characters, all of it is designed for this age group. If you have a preschooler, this park will make them feel like the main character all day.
Elementary Kids (ages 7-10):
They’ll enjoy it, especially the water park area and any special events happening during your visit. The dry rides may feel on the tamer side for older elementary kids, but seasonal events like Santa’s Beach Bash add layers that keep them engaged.
Tweens:
Dutch Wonderland is openly designed for younger children. Tweens may be there primarily for a younger sibling’s experience rather than their own thrill-seeking. Manage expectations accordingly and lean into whatever seasonal event is happening.
CARE Connection:
Daniel Tiger is built entirely around emotional intelligence: naming feelings, using kind words, managing frustration. Watching those characters come to life on stage is the CARE framework in action. Plus, the physical activity of rides and water play feeds the adventure pillar all day long.

Tickets
Tickets are currently on sale on the website for 40-45% off regular admission prices. They are also available on Groupon, but here’s the important tip: compare prices between Groupon and the park’s own website before you buy, because sometimes the website is actually cheaper. Always check both. You can also purchase tickets at the entrance if you prefer not to buy in advance.
Parking
General parking: $22. Preferred parking (closer to the entrance): $27.50. You can purchase parking online or at the booth when you drive in. Budget for this separately from your ticket cost.
The Park Is Completely Cashless
Dutch Wonderland does not accept cash. Everything requires a card. Put this in your phone notes and tell everyone in your group before you leave home. There is no cash-to-card kiosk mentioned — so come with a card, period.
Bag Size Policy
Bags larger than 15"x15"x15" are not permitted in the park. There is an exception for diaper bags and medical bags. If you’re bringing a standard backpack or bag, measure it before you go. A diaper bag is always fine — note this specifically if you’re bringing a young baby.
Food and Drinks
Food and drinks are not allowed in the park, but you can bring a water bottle and small snacks. Food options are available throughout the park inside. If you want to save money on meals, eating in the car before you enter or during a mid-day parking lot break is a valid strategy.
Stroller Friendly
Yes. The park is designed for young families and is navigable with a stroller. If you have a baby or toddler, bring it without question.
Daniel Tiger Show
The Daniel Tiger and Friends show runs on stage all summer. Check the park schedule when you arrive so you can plan your day around show times — this fills up and you’ll want to be there early for a good spot.
Santa’s Beach Bash
If this seasonal event is still running when you visit, go for it. Christmas in July with a foam party is exactly as fun as it sounds. Check Dutch Wonderland’s website for current seasonal events before you plan your trip.

Would We Go Back?
Yes. Especially during a seasonal event.
The combination of rides, shows, water play, and whatever special programming is running makes Dutch Wonderland feel different every time. The Daniel Tiger show alone is worth the trip if you have young Neighborhood fans at home. And if you happen to catch a foam party? Consider that a bonus gift.
Less than three hours from DC with plenty to keep young kids busy all day — that’s a genuinely good value day trip.
