LEGOLAND New York with Kids: The Full Guide with All the TEA

If you have a kid who lives for LEGOs, this trip belongs on your family bucket list.
LEGOLAND New York is in the Hudson Valley, about 60 miles northwest of Manhattan. We just went for opening day and I have all the TEA you need before you go.
The park is bigger than you think. The rides hit for both littles and bigger kids. The staff is the best I have ever experienced at an amusement park. There is a brand new LEGO Ferrari Build and Race that you have to see. And yes, parking is $35.
Let me break it all down.

What Makes LEGOLAND NY Different
LEGOLAND New York is built for families with kids ages 2 to 12. That is the sweet spot. But honestly? If you love LEGOs, you will lose your mind here as an adult too.
The park has 7 themed lands:
Brick Street
Bricktopia (home of the new Ferrari Build & Race)
LEGO City
LEGO Castle
LEGO NINJAGO World
MINILAND (full LEGO cities built brick by brick, an entire experience by itself)
LEGO Pirates (the water area)

Plus there is a Peppa Pig playground and show that my boys absolutely loved.
The Brand New LEGO Ferrari Build & Race Experience

This just opened and it is the new must-do at the park.
The whole experience is wild. There is an actual Ferrari built with over half a million LEGO bricks. Yes, half a million. And the best part? You can sit inside it.
The fun keeps going from there. Kids build their own LEGO car at different stations, then race it on the big screen against other kids. It hits curiosity, creativity, and competition all at once.
Included with your park ticket. Yes, included.
Ferrari Build & Race TEA
Here is the real talk from our visit:
It is not a ride, it is an experience. From what we saw, you can stay as long as you want. If your kid is having fun, settle in. There are benches inside for parents who need to take a seat while the kids keep building.
Crowds are controlled. If too many people are inside, you may wait in a line outside. The good news: the line moves fast. We did not wait long.
It is fun for the whole family. Adults can build too. Race your kid. See who builds the faster car. This is one of those moments where everyone in the family is in it together.
Strollers are NOT allowed inside. Stroller parking is outside the entrance. Plan accordingly so you are not scrambling at the door.
Find it in Bricktopia, in the Garage Zone. That is the section of the park you want.

If your kid is into cars, building, or just wants to feel like a real engineer for an hour, do not skip this.
The Real Talk: My Kids' Experience
We spent the full day at LEGOLAND and my boys are still talking about it weeks later.
What they loved most:
Meeting Peppa Pig and George at the Peppa Pig show
Running around in the Peppa Pig playground
Fire Academy, Driving School, and Lego Factory Adventure Rides were big hits!
The Ferrari Build & Race (we stayed forever)
Every single ride they were tall enough for they enjoyed
The rides genuinely impressed me. There is enough variety that a 2-year-old and a 12-year-old can both have a full day of fun. My boys did not stop smiling.
Both of them already asked when we are going back.

What We Loved
The size of the park. It is bigger than I expected. Bring your real walking shoes. Plan to be on your feet for hours. We walked the whole place and did not feel like we missed anything, but it took the full day.
The ride variety. From toddler-friendly attractions to bigger rides like the Dragon Coaster and LEGO NINJAGO The Ride, there is something for every age. My littles were never bored. Older kids will not be bored either.
The staff. I cannot say this enough. The staff at LEGOLAND New York is hands down the most pleasant, helpful, and genuinely kind crew I have ever encountered at a theme park. They made the whole experience better.
MINILAND. Walking through cities built entirely out of LEGO bricks is something you have to see in person. The detail is unreal. My boys stood there pointing at things for what felt like forever.
The Peppa Pig area. If you have littles, this is a moment. Real Peppa and George show up. There is a whole show. My kids were beside themselves.

The Ferrari Build & Race. Brand new. Engaging. Built with half a million LEGO bricks. Worth every minute.
The TEA: What I Wish I Had Known Before I Went
Here is the real talk no one tells you.
The park is HUGE. Bigger than I thought. Wear real shoes. Not flip-flops. Not cute sandals. Real walking shoes. Your feet will thank you by hour 4.
Plan a full day. Do not try to squeeze this into a half-day trip. You will leave frustrated. Block the whole day. Better yet, stay overnight.
Parking is $35 and you pay on exit if you do not pre-pay. I did not realize this until we were leaving. Pre-pay online to skip the wait at the exit toll. Or budget for it upfront.
It is cashless. Bring your cards. They do not take cash anywhere in the park. This caught a lot of people off guard.
The water park area opens in summer. We went in spring and missed it. If your kids love water play, plan your visit for summer so you can experience LEGO Pirates and Splash Battle.
The Rainy Day Promise is real. If rides are closed for 2+ hours due to weather, you get a free return ticket valid for the next 365 days. Hold on to that information if your visit gets a storm.
The hotel is worth considering. If you are coming from out of state, a one-night stay at the LEGO Hotel makes the whole trip easier. The themed rooms are wild. Kids lose their minds.
Buy tickets in advance online. Front gate prices are higher. Check for promo codes that drop one-day admission as low as $45.
The DUPLO Baby Care Center exists. If you have a baby with you, there is a full-service care center in LEGO City with changing stations, quiet rooms with sensory swings, and dimmable lighting. Game changer for new parents.
Strollers are not allowed in some attractions. The Ferrari Build & Race is one of them. Stroller parking is outside the entrance. Heads up so you are not stuck juggling.
Tips for Your Visit
1. Pre-pay for parking online. Saves you time at the exit toll. It is still $35 but the line moves faster.
2. Arrive at park opening. The park is big and the lines build fast. Get there when the gates open to maximize your day.
3. Download the LEGOLAND New York app before you arrive. It has the park map, ride wait times, show schedules, and Reserve and Ride options. Lifesaver for navigation.
4. Pack snacks and water. Outside food is allowed (no alcohol). Bottled water, snacks, baby food, and medical food are all permitted. The food is typical theme park food, so of course it is overpriced, save money where you can by bringing snacks or lunch.
5. Hit MINILAND early. The crowds build later in the day. You want time to actually take in the detail without being bumped around.
6. Ride the big rides first. Dragon Coaster, LEGO NINJAGO The Ride, and LEGO Factory Adventure get long lines by mid-day. Hit them in the first 2 hours.
7. Use Reserve and Ride for the big rides on busier days. You can buy this in the app. It cuts wait times significantly. Worth it on a busy day.
8. Save the Ferrari Build & Race for the afternoon. It is indoor. When the sun is hot or feet are tired, this is the perfect mid-day reset. And remember, no strollers inside.
9. End at MINILAND or the gift shop. Send the kids out on a high. End at something visual or magical so the trip ends well.

10. Plan for the drive back. From the DMV, you are looking at 4.5 to 5.5 hours. Build in stops. Pack snacks for the car. Maybe stay overnight in NJ or NY on the way home if your kids will not survive the drive.
What This Trip Taught My Family
We talk a lot about the CARE Framework in our house: Curiosity, Adventure, Resilience, and Emotional Intelligence.
LEGOLAND hits all four.
Curiosity lit up when my boys studied the MINILAND cities and asked questions about each one.
Adventure showed up on the Dragon Coaster, on NINJAGO, on the rides they were nervous to try.
Resilience kicked in when their feet hurt at hour 6 and they kept going because there was one more thing they wanted to see.
Emotional Intelligence was the moment my older son helped my younger son when he got nervous in line for a bigger ride.
That last one is what I take with me. The trip was not just fun. It was a chance to watch my boys be brave, be kind, and be curious all in the same day.

Your Quick Action Plan
Decide your travel dates (the park is open late March to early January)
Buy tickets online in advance for the discount
Pre-pay for parking ($35)
Download the LEGOLAND New York app
Decide on a day trip OR an overnight stay at the LEGO Hotel
Pack walking shoes, snacks, sunscreen, and a small backpack
Plan to arrive at park opening

Build in extra time for the drive home
The Bottom Line
LEGOLAND New York is bigger, better, and more fun than I expected.
The rides hit for every age in the 2 to 12 range. The staff is the kindest crew I have met at a theme park. MINILAND is unreal. The Peppa Pig area is gold for littles. The new Ferrari Build and Race is included with your ticket and absolutely worth your time.
Yes, you will walk a lot. Yes, parking is $35. Yes, you will spend money on snacks. But the experience is worth it.
We are already planning our return trip this summer to hit the water park.
If your kid loves LEGOs, this is the trip.
